Bandon Road Student Accommodation

The Bandon Road student accommodation scheme has undergone significant evolution in terms of design and scale since the initial grant of permission in 2017 for a scheme of 350 bed spaces. The strong demand for student accommodation in Cork, as well as emerging National Policies arising from The Government’s Rebuilding Ireland Action Plan for Housing and Homelessness prompted the developers, Lyonshall (Bandon Road), to apply for a Strategic Housing Development (SHD) application directly to An Bord Pleanála for a larger scheme of 419 bed spaces. The SHD application coordinated by HW Planning received planning permission in April 2019.

In the intervening period, Lyonshall successfully acquired additional lands fronting Bandon Road which prompted them to apply for an amended SHD application for a scheme of 554 bed spaces. This enlarged development provides a more coherent development that addresses the continuing strong demand for student accommodation and will enhance the streetscape along Bandon Road, providing a landmark building at this location and introducing a retail / café unit at ground floor level. The scheme also provides for significant public realm upgrades to the street and nearby junction as agreed with the City Council which will provide wider benefits to the local area. The revised SHD scheme was granted by An Bord Pleanála in Q3 2020.
